Academic and Behavior Requirements for Activity Participation

Please be aware of the behavioral/GPA/attendance requirements that must be met before a student can attend certain 8th-grade events. Students attending any functions are expected to adhere to all PCS Student Code of Conduct guidelines.

Eligibility for certain 8th grade events:

Students must maintain a C or higher in EACH of the core 4 academic courses: Math, ELA, Science and Social Studies.

Teachers have been working hard to make sure our students have the tools they need to be successful. It is on our 8th grade students to work just as hard to study the classroom content at home, complete unfinished work within the teacher deadlines, study for tests and turn in completed, quality work that demonstrates understanding of the state standards. Check our ELP and tutoring schedule for before and after school help options.

Referrals and Discipline

We expect our students to be respectful and follow the directions of the adult in the room to keep our classrooms a safe and productive learning environment.

Tardies and minor infractions do stack up into referrals if they are repeated offenses. Be sure students arrive by 9:30 to be on time to class!

Attendance

Regular attendance is essential for student success. Each day in the classroom provides important instruction, collaboration, and opportunities for learning that cannot be fully replaced when a student is absent.

As we move through the second half of the year, we want to remind families that consistent attendance is particularly important for our 8th grade students as they prepare for the transition to high school. Please be aware that excessive non-school-related absences may impact a student’s eligibility to participate in certain end-of-year 8th grade activities and celebrations.

We appreciate your partnership in helping ensure that each of our students works to meet the high expectations we have for them each day. Families play an important role in supporting student success by regularly monitoring their child’s attendance, grades, and behavior and reinforcing the importance of being present and prepared for school each day. When schools and families work together to maintain these expectations, our students are better positioned to meet the rigors of high school.
